Advanced Economic Solutions will expand access to equitable and affordable behavioral health services across Oregon by investing in community-based workforce development, supporting and elevating Traditional Health Workers, strengthening culturally responsive care, and advancing integrated health navigation.

Marin Areola is the owner and president of Advanced Economic Solutions Inc., based in Salem, Oregon. With over 28 years of experience, he specializes in developing and implementing economic, business, health equity, supplier diversity, and workforce development programs aimed at better serving vulnerable, culturally, and linguistically diverse communities in Oregon and California.

Marin has collaborated with numerous organizations, including Business Oregon, Oregon Department of Human Services, MODA Health, OHSU, Family Care Health, Department of Labor, City of Salem, Hoffman Construction, Oregon Health Authority, Marion County, Polk County, Salem Health, Willamette Valley Medical Center, Oregon Community Foundation, Swinerton, Skanska, Microsoft, City of San Jose, and the Governor's Office of Business & Equity, among others. His passion and energy are dedicated to designing and implementing culturally and linguistically appropriate programs that address disparities in economic development, small business growth, workforce development, and public health within BIPOC communities.

Beyond his professional work, Marin has served on numerous commissions and boards committed to advancing equity and supporting diverse communities in Oregon and California. His leadership roles include:

Marin’s dedication to economic and workforce development has earned him recognition from both President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton for his efforts in promoting opportunities for vulnerable communities and businesses.


Julia Banks
Senior Vice President, Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo Foundation will invest $250,000 in housing stability, with grants to five organizations across the state focused on helping renters avoid eviction and stay housed.

Julia Banks  

As the Washington, Oregon, Nevada Regional Executive, Julia oversees branch network operations in the WON region, including nine districts, 128 branches, and more than 1,000 employees.

Julia joined Wells Fargo in 2005 and has held various positions with Branch Banking, including 13 years as a District Senior Manager and most recently a Segment Influencer and Region Coach. In these roles she consistently delivered balanced results, effectively managing and mitigating risk, and was known for being a strong leader that has a passion for developing her team to reach their full potential.

Julia earned her business degree in Bank Management from Pacific Coast Banking School and UW Foster School of Business. Julia is passionate about community service through her board leadership as an executive board member at the Portland Business Metro Chamber and Raphael House. Her hobbies include cooking, running, and being an avid sports mom.

Julia resides with her husband, Kyle Banks in Ridgefield, Washington, and her daughters Ella, Brooklyn, Maely, and Dorothy.


Dr. Adrien Bennings
President, Portland Community College

Portland Community College will has launched and will continue to refine a Behavioral Health Career Pathway, offering a clear and structured journey for students in the field, and diversifying Oregon’s behavioral health workforce for long-term growth.

Dr. Adrien Bennings  

Dr. Adrien Bennings joined Portland Community College in the summer of 2022 as the college’s eighth president, making her PCC’s first permanent female president in its history.

Dr. Bennings has taught courses in human resources development, academic development and retention, and small business development. She has held progressively higher-level positions in higher education for more than 15 years.

Before coming to Portland, she served as the president of Kellogg Community College, one of 28 community colleges in Michigan whose service region spans three counties. She was also the president of the Kellogg Community College Foundation, helping to lead the foundation’s strategic planning and fundraising activities, and advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Prior to joining KCC, Dr. Bennings was the vice president of administration and finance and chief financial officer at Clovis Community College in New Mexico. Prior to this, she served as regional director of small business development at Texas Tech University where she advanced economic development initiatives spanning a 16-county area. Additionally, she serves as a certified peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission.

Dr. Bennings’ educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration from Texas Tech University; a Master of Science in Business Administration with a Human Resources concentration from Wayland Baptist University; and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Development from Texas A&M University.


David Drinkward
President and Chief Executive Officer, Hoffman Construction Company

Hoffman Construction Company will build out a Recovery Ready Workplace substance use prevention program, working with Care for Construction, a provider of a full range of prevention, awareness, and treatment services custom-built for people in construction.

David Drinkward  

Dave Drinkward is the President and CEO of Hoffman Construction Company and a member of its Board of Directors. Founded in Portland in 1922, Hoffman has grown to become one of the largest construction companies in the United States, with annual revenues exceeding $5 billion. As CEO, Dave is responsible for shaping Hoffman’s strategic vision and overseeing the execution of all its operations.

Dave is known for leading with a people-centered approach to business, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing employee well-being, and empowering teams to deliver exceptional results. He believes that investing in people is key to driving long-term success and innovation.

Before becoming CEO in 2018, Dave played a pivotal role in leading some of the company’s most significant initiatives. He has held key leadership positions across various departments, including Risk Management, Safety, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Virtual Design and Construction.

Dave is also deeply committed to community service. He serves as a director of Meals on Wheels People and the ACE Mentor Program of America and serves as Vice Chair of the Oregon Business Council. Additionally, Dave is a Trustee and Chair of the Advancement Committee at Willamette University.

A graduate of Linfield College and the Willamette University College of Law, Dave resides in Portland, OR, with his wife, Erin, and their four children.


Clarissa Etter-Smith
Health Care Executive Director, Genentech

Genentech will expand pathways into STEM education and careers for underrepresented youth in collaboration with community-based programs and continue to remove barriers to care by providing patient assistance, conducting inclusive clinical trials, and supporting patient advocacy organizations and other patient-serving social services nonprofits

Clarissa Etter-Smith  

Clarissa Etter-Smith is an accomplished industry executive with a robust background in the business of healthcare with a focus on biopharmaceuticals. With over 20 years of experience working for industry leaders like, AstraZeneca, Biogen and Shire, Clarissa has held multiple roles serving patients across therapeutic areas. This broad experience across privately and publicly held organizations spanning multiple positions of leadership, prepared her for her current position at Genentech as the Healthcare Executive Director, a novel position dedicated to advancing patient care in Oregon.

She is a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky where she holds a Bachelor of Arts in both Business and Communications. Clarissa has undertaken executive education programs at some of the world's most prestigious institutions, including the High Potentials Leadership Program and Negotiation and Competitive Decision Making at Harvard University, as well as executive education programs at Columbia University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Clarissa's desire to continuously learn and grow, coupled with practical experience, equips her with the strategic insight and leadership acumen necessary to drive exceptional results. She is dedicated to fostering innovation, improving health equity, while leading teams towards achieving organizational success. Dedicated to her husband Steve and two grown children, Kyle and Renae, family underpins her work and drives her dedication to helping to enable healthier families.


Peggy Maguire
President, Cambia Health Foundation

Cambia Health Foundation will award $200,000 in grants in 2025 focused on innovative whole-person primary care models, early intervention for young children and caregivers, and building a diverse primary care workforce with a focus on behavioral health.

Peggy Maguire  

As President of the Cambia Health Foundation, Peggy Maguire leads all of Cambia’s philanthropic programs and activities, including grantmaking, convening partners to address shared challenges, and engaging employees in giving and volunteerism. Dedicated to responsible stewardship, Peggy’s team purposefully invests in local solutions that expand access to behavioral health care in underserved communities throughout Washington, Oregon, Utah and Idaho. The current focus on expanding access to behavioral health care meets a critical community need and builds upon the Foundation’s history of supporting whole-person health through targeted investments in palliative care.

Founded in 2007, the Foundation has funded more than $131M in grants to advance person-focused and economically sustainable healthcare. This includes a significant investment in the nationally recognized Sojourns® Scholarship Leadership Program supporting the next generation of palliative care leaders with the goal of improving the care of people with serious illness and supporting their caregivers. In 2025, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine recognized Peggy with its highest honor, a presidential citation, for her significant contributions to the field of hospice and palliative medicine.

Peggy is deeply engaged in the community through volunteer leadership roles. She currently chairs the boards of directors for the Western States Region of the American Heart Association and Grantmakers in Aging. She co-chairs the Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM). Peggy serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board at Boston University’s School of Social Work and on the Steering Committee for Oregon’s Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health & Aging. She is a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum of Oregon.

In 2023, Peggy was named an Honorary Life Member of the Doernbecher Philanthropy Board after nine years of service on the Oregon Health & Sciences University Foundation Board. Peggy is a member of Friends of the Children’s National Emeritus board. She previously served on the boards of The Dougy Center and Start Making a Reader Today (SMART).

Peggy has received numerous accolades and awards for her leadership and community service such as Executive of the Year in 2024 by the Portland Business Journal and Honorable Mention for Innovation at the 2019 Top Women in Healthcare Awards. In 2017, Portland Monthly Magazine honored Peggy with a Light a Fire Award for Extraordinary Board Service. She received an Athena Award from Dress for Success Oregon in 2016, was named a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington in 2015, and a Woman of Influence by the Portland Business Journal in 2014.

Peggy joined Cambia in 1997 and has held several key positions including senior vice president and chief of staff to the CEO prior to her current role. She holds a bachelor's degree from Lawrence University, a law degree from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College and an Executive Program Certificate from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.


Gustavo Morales
Executive Director, Euvalcree

Euvalcree will provide technical assistance and strategic support to organizations engaged in economic development activities in Eastern Oregon, seeking to improve regional health and wellbeing through shared economic advancement.

Gustavo Morales  

Gustavo is the executive director of EUVALCREE, based in Eastern Oregon, an organization that develops the social capital and leadership capacity of community members. Gustavo is appointed by Governor Kate Brown to sit on four positions as:

  1. Commissioner on the Oregon Advocacy Commission-Commission on Hispanic Affairs
  2. Board Member for the Cultural Development Board for the State of Oregon-Oregon Cultural Trust
  3. Enviromental Justice Council
  4. Oregon State Board of Education

He received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Neuroscience emphasis from Pacific University and is completing his Master's in Business Administration from Boise State University. In addition to continuing his education and managing a non-profit organization, Gustavo works as an independent consultant supporting businesses to improve their economies of scale, strategize to develop competitive advantage and increase business visibility.


Dr. Jayathi Murty
President, Oregon State University

Oregon State University will invest in rural health, through placements for public health students, STEM and job readiness for high school students, and expanding chronic disease and mental health programming in rural and underserved communities.

Health equity is essential for achieving the widely shared prosperity to which OSU is deeply committed."
Dr. Jayathi Murty  

Jayathi Y. Murthy, a national leader in higher education engineering teaching, research and service, began her service as Oregon State University’s 16th president on Sept. 9, 2022.

As OSU’s president, Murthy is committed to improving access to college for all learners; advancing student success, undergraduate graduation rates and inclusive excellence throughout the university; expanding OSU’s strong research portfolio by investing in research infrastructure; and supporting faculty excellence in teaching, research and Extension and engagement programs.

Prior to joining Oregon State, Murthy served as the Ronald and Valerie Sugar Dean at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science since January 2016.

Murthy was the first woman dean at UCLA’s engineering school.

During her tenure, she made expanding access to a UCLA engineering education a top priority by deepening relationships with local community colleges, increasing outreach to underrepresented minority groups and easing the transition for transfer students. She led the effort to establish Women in Engineering at UCLA – a program that supports the full participation of women in engineering. While at UCLA, she was active in helping raise more than $330 million in philanthropy.

Under Murthy’s leadership at UCLA, the engineering school focused on growth in areas critical to the 21st century, including engineering in medicine and biology; sustainable and resilient urban systems; artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science; cybersecurity and the future internet; robotics and cyberphysical systems; as well as advanced materials and manufacturing. She also has served as a distinguished professor in the school’s mechanical and aerospace department.

Before joining UCLA, Murthy was chair of the mechanical engineering department at the University of Texas at Austin and held the Ernest Cockrell, Jr. Memorial Chair in Engineering from 2012-2015. Prior to that, Murthy was a mechanical engineering professor at Purdue University from 2001-2011 and served as a professor of mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh from 1998 to 2001.

While at Purdue and University of Texas, Murthy served as the director of the Center for Prediction of Reliability, Integrity and Survivability of Microsystems (PRISM) from 2008 to 2014, a center of excellence supported by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

Murthy began her career at Arizona State University, where she was an assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering from 1984 to 1988. From 1988 to 1998, Murthy worked at New Hampshire-based Fluent, Inc., a developer and vendor of the world’s most widely used computational fluid dynamics software. She led the development of algorithms and software that still form the core the company’s products.

She has authored over 330 technical publications.

Murthy received a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Washington State University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, where she was named a distinguished alumna in 2012.

She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), foreign fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), and a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Murthy is the recipient of many honors, including the ASME Electronics and Photonics Packaging Division Clock Award in 2012, the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award in 2016, the ASME Kate Gleason Award and a Linn-Benton NAACP Social Change Champion Award in 2023, and a Women of Influence Award from the Portland Business Journal in 2024.

Her research interests include nanoscale heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics, and simulations of fluid flow and heat transfer for industrial applications. Recently, her focus is on sub-micron thermal transport, multiscale multi-physics simulations of micro- and nano-electromechanical systems (MEMS and NEMS) and the uncertainty quantifications involved in those systems.

Murthy is married to Sanjay Mathur, an aerospace engineer who works at SparkCognition, a firm specializing in artificial intelligence systems and development.
