Birth and Pregnancy Data Dashboards

The Center for Health Statistics has public data dashboards on topics related to birth and pregnancy in Oregon. These present Oregon's annual vital record data in accessible, engaging, and interactive ways.

Summary:

Oregon teen pregnancy data includes births and induced abortions to teens.
  • Pregnancy estimates are based upon the estimated number of teen births and induced terminations among Oregon teens; they do not include the number of fetal deaths or miscarriages (spontaneous abortions) which occur.
  • The estimation of teen births is considered to be relatively complete and includes births to resident teens even when they occur out-of-state. The estimation of teen abortions is based on all reported abortions to teenage residents of Oregon; however, because states often do not report abortions obtained within their borders to the state of residence as occurs with vital events such as birth and death, an unknown number of Oregon teens obtain abortion services out-of-state. As a consequence, estimates of teen abortions and teen pregnancies should be considered minimal in nature.
  • Other tables of teen pregnancy data from 2017 and earlier are available. Please contact CHS.Statistics@oha.oregon.gov for more information.

The Center for Health Statistics has developed a system to calculate preliminary teen pregnancy rates for 10-17, 15-17, and 15-19-year-olds at the state and county level.

Preliminary 12-Month Moving Total:

The 12-month moving total is the sum of monthly counts of teen pregnancies to each age group of Oregon residents (births and induced abortions* during the previous 12-month period)**

Example:

2010                    2010                    2011

J F M A M J J A S O N D J F M A M J J A S O N D J

  |    Feb10 - Jan11    |

    |    Mar10 - Feb11    |

      |    Apr10 - Mar11    |

                    ...

                          |    Feb11 - Jan12    |

* For all tables associated with this project, abortion is defined as an induced termination of pregnancy, and does not include spontaneous abortions, also known as miscarriages, fetal demises, or fetal deaths.

** Rates and counts in counties where residents typically travel to other states to obtain medical services will reduce counts and rates until data are received from other states. This typically occurs a few months before the end of a calendar year. The reporting of abortions to the Center for Health Statistics is often delayed, which will also reduce counts and rates until the data are received. In addition, some states (i.e. California) do not report induced terminations of pregnancy of out-of-state residents to other states, which likely results in reduced counts for some counties.

Preliminary Rolling Rate:

The pregnancy rate per 1,000 females within each age category is calculated by dividing the 12-month moving total pregnancies by the most recent population estimate for Oregon females, multiplied by 1,000. During the year, the data are under constant revision.

Population Estimates:

The most current population estimates will be used, and replaced when new estimates are available. Population data by sex and age are typically available in April following the estimate year. Because of this, up to ten months of the current year's rates will be calculated using the previous year's population estimates. Teen pregnancy rates will be affected in counties with rapidly changing population estimates for teen females. Population estimates are provided by the Population Research Center at Portland State University.

YTD Pregnancies:

Year-to-date (YTD) pregnancies are the sum of Oregon resident births and abortions as they are reported and updated quarterly to the Center for Health Statistics. The YTD figure is the actual number of pregnancies reported for the specific calendar year.

Preliminary and Final Rates:

Preliminary rates are undergoing final editing procedures, and may result in occasional and minor changes. Please label data as provisional or preliminary when reporting. Final rates for past years will not change and have been published in various vital statistics publications.

Oregon State Health Indicators

VIEW MAPS:  2011 - 2015  |  2009 - 2013

These maps display three state health indicators. They were created in response to a growing demand for health indicator data at the county and census tract levels. To protect Oregonian's confidentiality and ensure data reliability, five years of data were combined for the following three health indicators:

  • Low birthweight (all ages)

  • Initiation of first trimester prenatal care (all ages), and

  • Teen pregnancy (ages 15-17).

Technical Notes

Tips for using data maps

  1. We recommend maximizing your browser window and using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to view the maps.

  2. Allow a few moments for the maps to load.

  3. Once the maps have loaded, use the tabs across the top to view individual maps.

  4. You can click on an individual county to open a pop-up window with detailed data for that county.

  5. Zoom in to access census tracts or ZIP codes. If you select a county, you can click Zoom to at the bottom of the pop-up window to zoom in to that county.

Use the zoom tool to zoom in or out, or to return to the "home" view.

NOTE: Census tract and ZIP code-level maps are only as accurate as the address information provided on the birth certificate. At least 95 percent of births recorded in Oregon contain sufficiently accurate address information to be geocoded at the level of residential address or street. For border counties, where residents regularly give birth in neighboring states, the accuracy of residential address information is dependent on that state's data collection procedures.

Fetal Death Data

Updated February 3, 2026
Oregon collects reports and compiles statistics for each fetal death of 350 grams or more or, if weight is unknown, 20 weeks gestation or more.

Induced Abortion Data

Induced abortion data dashboard
The Center for Health Statistics has a public data dashboard on abortion and pregnancy in Oregon. Our dashboards aim to present Oregon's annual vital record data in more accessible, engaging, and interactive ways.

Updated November 7, 2025
The following tables provide the most current statistics on induced abortions in Oregon.

The data represent all abortions performed in Oregon during the current data year, regardless of residence. This is different than our birth data that reports for Oregon residents.

Be sure to check out our birth & pregnancy annual report data dashboards as well for final abortion data on a number of additional topics, as well as statewide counts and rates from 1980 onward.

How to Interpret Data

Preliminary data for births, deaths, fetal deaths, and induced abortions are undergoing editing procedures which result in frequent and significant changes. Please use caution when interpreting these data. Data can be used for tracking recent health events, but are not appropriate for use in statistical analyses.

A limited number of summary tables are available. Birth, death, and fetal death tables show events to Oregon residents. Abortion tables include out-of-state residents who obtained abortion services in Oregon, but do not include Oregonians who may have obtained abortions elsewhere.

The data include all registered records as of the run date shown on the table. It does not include records received but not yet processed by the Center for Health Statistics.

Border counties will have less complete data because some of their residents experience the vital event outside of Oregon. Out-of-state records are received by the Center for Health Statistics much later than in-state records.
