Information for Tenants

Rent Well©, a program of Transition Projects, is a 15-hour tenant education program that helps empower Oregon residents with the knowledge and skills to navigate renting successfully. The lessons cover budgeting, the application process, communication skills, tenant rights, landlord expectations, unit maintenance, moving tips, and much more. Rent Well© courses are available in three different styles to meet the needs of the community:

  • In-person sessions;
  • Webinar-style; and
  • Online eCourse.
In-person and webinar-style classes are taught by certified instructors at partnering agencies who have completed the Tenant Educator Academy and maintain recertification (an intensive deep dive into how to teach the course at their agency).

If you are interested in attending a RentWell© tenant education course to assist you in overcoming barriers to housing, please email the RentWell© program

Information for Providers

The Rent Well© Program partners with nonprofits, publicly funded agencies, and governmental organizations with housing-focused mission statements. Through these partnerships, the Rent Well© program trains agency staff to deliver the curriculum and education at their own agency. These Community Agency Partners, or CAPs, can have staff members attend training for professional development in the housing services field or have staff members become fully certified Rent Well instructors for their agency.

If you are a local community-based organization and are interested in teaching Rent Well©, please email the RentWell© program.

Information for Landlords

Some counties and agencies pair their RentWell© tenant education courses with a Landlord Incentive Fund. This funding provides landlords with assurance that if a RentWell© graduate leaves their rental unit within the first year and owes unpaid rent, damages, or legal fees beyond what the security deposit covers, the program will pay the landlord for those additional costs up to a certain amount.

Landlord Incentive Fund amounts and coverage areas are based on localized resources tied to the location where the individual graduated from the Rent Well course. Some funds are covered by the agencies that provide the Rent Well classes. In other cases, county funds are dedicated to this additional support. Additionally, Oregon Housing and Community Services has a dedicated statewide fund that eligible Rent Well graduates can utilize. Email the RentWell© program for more information.
