Public Records at DEQ

DEQ is working to make more of our public records available to you directly online. Visit our Online Services page for a wealth of publicly available information and data. Over time, we will continue to make more information available as part of this online service.

If the records you are seeking are not already posted online, please choose one of the following methods to request DEQ records. Your request may be subject to fees permitted under Oregon's public records law:

Preferred method

Submit your records request using our online public records request portal.

  • The online portal is the fastest way to receive your request. It also allows you to track the status of your request, pay fees, and directly download your records.

Alternative method

Mail a written request to the Public Records Coordinator at: Oregon Department of Environmental Quality
Attn: Public Records Coordinator
700 NE Multnomah St., Suite 600
Portland, OR 97232

Please provide as much detail as necessary to locate the requested records for either method. We may need to follow up if we do not understand which records you are seeking, or if the request requires other clarification or information.

Fees

We automatically waive the first 30 minutes of time spent on records requests. If we anticipate there will be fees associated with your request, we will send an estimate for your review and approval before proceeding.

  • View our current fee schedule.
  • If you are requesting a fee waiver in the public interest, you can provide this information in the fee waiver section of the online request form.
  • If you are requesting a fee waiver in writing other than on the request form, please use the fee waiver form posted here to tell us how a waiver or reduction of fees is in the public interest because making the record available primarily benefits the general public.

DEQ will acknowledge your request within five business days, and within 15 business days will either provide requested records (except for any that are withheld as confidential), inform you that DEQ is not the custodian of any responsive records, or provide a reasonable timeframe within which we expect to complete the request.

For more information, view the Frequently Asked Questions on our portal for more information about DEQ's public records request process.
