Pediatric Readiness Program: Quality Improvement

Quality Improvement

The national Pediatric Readiness Quality Collaborative project through the EMSC Innovation & Improvement Center (where this all started) focused on four improvement initiatives:

  1. measure and record weights in kilograms
  2. obtain and record complete set of vital signs
  3. establish or refine pediatric interfacility transfer agreements and guidelines
  4. pediatric disaster preparedness

While the four initiatives are essential areas for improvement, it is not an exhaustive list, and member hospitals likely face daily challenges with pediatric patients that are amenable to a quality improvement approach. Quality improvement projects and resources will be informed by the most recent National Pediatric Readiness Project assessment completed by Oregon and Southwest Washington hospital emergency departments, in addition to dialogue with participating sites.
