What is Presumptive Medical Eligibility?
The Affordable Care Act allows states to qualify certain entities to determine “presumed” (or “likely”) eligibility for some Oregon Health Plan (OHP) programs based on a quick screening of primary eligibility factors.
OHP coverage approved through Presumptive Eligibility is temporary coverage. It requires approved applicants to complete a full application if they want benefits to continue beyond the temporary period. For eligible individuals, the Presumptive Eligibility process can sometimes allow coverage to start more quickly than waiting for a full application to be processed.
