Environmental Public Health Tracking Courses

Tracking in ActionWorkforce Implementation Tracking in Action provides real-life examples of CDC grantee Tracking Programs and Networks and how they have partnered with local programs and organizations to identify and address environmental health concerns. The course is hosted on the National Environmental Health Association's website. The course is free, but participants must register.

Info by Location Tool - CDC has released a new and improved Info by Location tool on the Tracking Network. You can now enter your county name or zip code and view infographic-style environmental health information about your county. 


ArcGIS 

ArcGIS Training - ArcGIS is a software system that allows you to visually represent data by geographic location. 

ESRI Resources and Training Links - This is the main online campus for ESRI, the makers of the ArcGIS software.  This includes information on instructor led classes as well as online trainings or tutors, some of which are free.


Metadata

Federal Geographic Data Committee; Metadata resources and Information - The FGDC is tasked by Executive Order 12906 to develop procedures and assist in the implementation of a distributed discovery mechanism for national digital geospatial data.  A metadata record is a file of information, usually presented as an XML document, which captures the basic characteristics of a data or information resource.  This site lists some resources and information about metadata and the FGDC.

National Biological Information Infrastructure; Metadata presentation and resources - The U.S. Geological Survey provides information that describes metadata and provides links to additional metadata resources.


Environmental Public Health

The Public Health Assessment Process and the Community - Trainex, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency This program provides an overview of the public health assessment process that the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry uses to evaluate whether people will be harmed by hazardous materials from waste sites or from other places where hazardous substances have been spilled or released into the environment. 

Environmental Health Trainings - Northwest Center for Public Health Practice, Seattle Washington.  This site is intended for all public health practitioners who work with environmental health.  Formats are CD-ROM training modules and on-site trainings.

North Carolina Center for Public Health Preparedness (NCCPHP) Internet-based training catalog - Internet-based trainings from the NCCPHP, UNC-CH School of Public Health, CDC, FEMA, and other Centers for Public Health Preparedness on: bioterrorism, surveillance, outbreak investigation, public health preparedness, basic epidemiology, emergency management and chemical terrorism.

Public Health Foundation Training Finder - Learning resource for public health professionals has physical sites in some states (not Oregon) and links to many web-based, CD, and other training opportunities.


Risk Communication

CDC Emergency Risk Communication - The CDC's training curricula both brings the novice up to speed and helps the seasoned professional hone his or her skills in Emergency Risk Communication.

Environmental Health and Risk Communication Training - Indian Health Service. This three-day course provides students with an overview of an assessment tool, Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence in Environmental Health (PACE EH), and familiarize students with the concept of incorporating the ten Essential Public Health Services into the operation of an environmental health program.

ASPH EnviroRisk - Web-based EnviroRisk is a case-based, problem-solving program in environmental risk assessment and risk communication.


Environmental Justice

Environmental Justice: Best Practices for Oregon's Natural Resource Agencies- The State of Oregon Environmental Justice Task Force published this handbook to provide guidance to state agencies to consider disproportionate impacts and elicit meaningful participation from affected environmental justice communities. What follows is a discussion of a number of techniques and strategies state agencies can employ to achieve environmental justice in their operations and programs.
