Meaningful Use
The PDMP meets the definition of a specialized registry for meaningful use for eligible professionals (EPs), starting in program year 2016. EPs can meet the specialized registry objective by complying with one of the following:
- Submit patient specific controlled substance dispensing information electronically to the PDMP; or
- Electronically retrieve patient-specific controlled substance dispensing information from the PDMP.
To register intent,
please visit Promoting Interoperability (Meaningful Use) in Public Health.
IMPORTANT: EPs who receive an EHR incentive payment for either the Medicare or Medicaid EHR Incentive Program potentially may be subject to an audit. EPs should retain ALL relevant supporting documentation that supports an EP’s meaningful use attestation, including the public health objectives.
Documentation must be retained for seven years. The PDMP does not retain data for greater than 3 years from date of dispensing.
PDMP staff will work in cooperation with Meaningful Use to confirm eligibility.
