WIC Food Changes for Vendors

Updates to the WIC Food List starting July 1, 2025

The types and amounts of foods for WIC participants are changing! In 2024, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) revised the federal WIC food package rule. The new WIC food benefits offer shoppers more choice and flexibility at the store.

7/1/2025 WIC Approved Products List

Over 900 new food UPCs have been added to the WIC Approved Products (APL). They will be active on 7/1/2025. About 130 food UPCs are also being deactivated on 7/1/2025.

What do stores need to do?

  • Make sure each register or WIC terminal is powered on to receive the new APL update.
  • 7/1/2025: Use the WICShopper app to identify WIC authorized foods.
  • Update WIC Food shelf tags!
    • WIC shoppers told us they use WIC shelf labels to help them choose approved WIC foods.
    • Add WIC Food shelf tags to newly approved foods.
    • Remove WIC Food shelf tags from foods no longer approved.

New WIC Food choices:

  • More whole grain bread options such as gluten-free options, whole wheat buns, rolls, bagels, pita and naan;
  • Fresh cut herbs;
  • Almond, sunflower and sesame butters (tahini) in addition to peanut butter;
  • Ripple plant-based milk and Silk Kids oat milk blend;
  • Sliced and shredded cheese;
  • Muenster, provolone, swiss, and sharp cheddar cheese;
  • All participants, except infants, will be able to buy approved canned fish and fish in pouches.
