Accreditation for Laboratories Testing Cannabis in Oregon

Resources

ORELAP Accreditation and Cannabis Testing

Laboratories interested in ORELAP accreditation for Cannabis are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The accreditation process can take several months.

Laboratories interested in testing Cannabis plant (usable marijuana) must apply for accreditation in the “Biological Tissue” matrix.  Laboratories interested in testing Cannabis extracts and products must apply in the “Solid” matrix.

An accredited laboratory can subcontract non-accredited analytes to another ORELAP accredited laboratory, per the TNI Standard. Laboratories are required to be accredited before OLCC licensing per HB 3400.

Prepare your Laboratory for ORELAP Accreditation

  • Purchase the 2016 TNI Standard from www.nelac-institute.org. Consider becoming a member - the Standard is offered at a discount and membership allows your input into many areas of TNI including training and the revision of the standards.
  • Prepare your documentation, including a quality manual and standard operating procedures for all activities.
  • Analyze Proficiency Testing (PT) Samples: ORELAP requires two acceptable PT samples for each matrix/method/analyte combination before being accredited.
  • Ensure compliance with the technical modules of the TNI Standard.
  • Submit your application in the ORELAP Data Input and Edit (ODIE) tool.  A link is provided on the ORELAP home page.
