Planning for a New School-Based Health Center

Resources for Planning New SBHCs

Regardless of the availability of state planning grants, any community may choose to plan for a SBHC. Once opened, the SBHC may request to be certified by the SBHC State Program Office (SPO). The SPO encourages communities to plan for a SBHC within their own timeline.

Due to state budget cuts, the SPO will have decreased capacity during the 2017-2019 biennium to assist planning sites or communities interested in opening an SBHC. Certification of newly opened SBHCs may be delayed and there is no funding to support additional SBHCs at this time.

We encourage any community interested in developing and opening a SBHC to review the following documents:

This information will help smooth your planning process and ensure your SBHC will be prepared to meet the SPO Standards for Certification.

The SPO will keep this page updated with additional planning resources as they become available. Check back for updates. The SBHC Team will continue to do all they can to support SBHCs and work with partners across the state to assure school-aged youth have access to quality clinical care. SPO encourages communities interested in applying for certification of a new SBHC to contact our office.

For more information about planning new SBHCs, please contact the SBHC State Program Office at or 971-673-0871.
