Oral Health Integration Overview

Oral health is a vital component of overall health and well-being. Conditions in the mouth can both reflect and influence health throughout the body. Poor oral health can exacerbate chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and complications during pregnancy. It can also lead to chronic pain, missed school or work days, and increased use of emergency departments for preventable issues.

Oregon's health system transformation includes a strong emphasis on prevention, whole-person care, and effective coordination among providers. Oral health is an essential part of this approach. The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is committed to advancing oral health equity and ensuring all Oregonians have access to the care they need to achieve and maintain good oral health.

Resources

Member and provider materials

The Transformation Center developed a dental coverage awareness toolkit to increase awareness among Oregon Health Plan (OHP) members and providers of the importance of preventive dental care. The goal of these materials is to:

  • Encourage members to understand and use their dental benefits
  • Explain how OHP members can access dental care
  • Describe how dental health is a key component of overall health and well-being
Access the dental coverage awareness toolkit

The toolkit includes:
  • OHP dental brochures (seven languages)
  • OHP dental poster (seven languages)
  • OHP dental fact sheet for CCOs and providers
  • Key messages
  • Sample posts and tweets
  • Social media graphics
