Oregon State Hospital (OSH) recognizes that the importance of visitation with friends and family to a patient's recovery. To encourage visitation of people who live 150 miles or more away from the hospital, OSH invites them to use the visitor cottage for overnight stays.

Use of the visitor cottage is by reservation only. To ensure access to everyone who needs it, the maximum stay is three (3) nights in a 30-day period.

Guests are assigned a private bedroom, but common areas of the cottage (living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathrooms) are shared between all cottage guests. There may be multiple families using the cottage at one time. Visitors use the space at their own risk. Oregon State Hospital is not liable for infectious conditions that may be transmitted by individuals who do not follow the hospital's self-screening process).

Cottage Reservations, Conditions, and Fees

Reservations must be made at least five (5) days in advance of your stay. To make a reservation, please contact OSH Ombuds and Family Services at 503-947-8109 or OSH.OmbudsandFamilyServices@odhsoha.oregon.gov. Please be ready with the following information: 

  1. Names of all visitors who will stay in the cottage, including minors under the age of 18. Minors may not be left unattended in the cottage or on hospital grounds
  2. The dates of your scheduled patient visit(s). The cottage cannot be reserved until your patient visits have been confirmed
  3. Your contact information
  4. Vehicle information, if applicable
  5. Date and times of cottage check in and check out.

The cost to stay in the cottage is $10 per day, per room. This fee helps maintain the cottage and the OSH Family Travel Fund, which is used to assist patient visitors when travel is a financial hardship. Part or all of this fee may be waived with approval from Ombuds and Family Services.

Arrival and Departure

Cottage check-in begins at 2:00 p.m. each day and check-out is no later than 1:00 p.m. Guests check in at reception, where they will be given a key to the cottage front door and a key to their room. Guests must return their keys to reception upon check out. 

Bedrooms: All beds are twin beds with linens and blankets provided. Guests are welcome to bring extra blankets and pillows. Please remove the bed linens prior to departure and place them in the hamper provided in each room.

Bathrooms: Bathrooms are shared between all guests. Please clean up after yourself. Towels are provided for your convenience. Guests should bring their own toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.).

Cleaning/Maintenance: Please report all housekeeping or maintenance issues to reception. Environmental Services (EVS) staff may clean common areas while guests are in the cottage. Cleaning services are not provided in bedrooms while they are occupied.

Visitor Responsibilities

The Visitor Cottage is provided to OSH patient visitors as a courtesy to support patient's recovery. OSH reserves the right to deny use of the cottage to visitors who violate OSH Visitor Guidelines or the cottage conditions for use. Violations may result in permanent loss of privileges to stay in the visitor cottage.
