Food Manager Certification will be required in Oregon starting in 2029 to provide managers with in-depth knowledge of proper food safety practices for use in their facilities. The new rule requirements will roll out in two parts:

Phase 1:
At least one person in charge shall be a certified food protection manager by 1/1/29.

Phase 2:
At least one person in charge working each day shall be a certified food protection manager.  The certified person in charge must be present during the hours of operation that represents the highest food safety risk to the food establishment by 1/1/31.

Another benefit of food managers' training is that facilities with a certified food manager as the Person In Charge (PIC) will meet the Demonstration of Knowledge requirement in the Oregon Food Sanitation Rules, OAR 333-150-0000, Chapter 2.

Managers that have successfully passed one of the listed courses are not required to have a Food Handler's Card in the state of Oregon and their Manager's Certificate can be used in any county statewide.
