Testing Options to Consider


Notice: On Friday, July 3, Oregon Driver and Motor Services’ computer system will be down as it undergoes an upgrade. DEQ’s clean air stations will continue conducting emissions testing and providing certificates. However, customers cannot renew their registration or tags until DMV’s system is back online Monday, July 6. Then, customers can renew their registration and tags at DMV2U or at a DMV Express Kiosk. Oregon is pleased to offer DEQ customers literally hundreds of vehicle testing options. For individual and some commercial vehicles owners, DEQ offers testing at its seven Clean Air Stations and through more than 200 private sector “DEQ Too" service providers. To help make the testing selection that is right for you, some key features of these testing options is summarized below.

Clean Air Stations

  • Locations: 6 in Portland; 1 in Medford
  • Cost: DEQ Test Fee of $25 in Portland and $20 in Medford
  • Services: Vehicle testing and renewal tag issuance

DEQ Too Locations

  • Locations: 200 in Portland and Medford Metro-areas
  • Cost: DEQ Test Fee of $25 in Portland and $20 in Medford*
  • Services: Vehicle testing and other vehicle services; tags available on-line

​​All the following criteria must be met for the use of DEQ Too testing:

  1. Vehicle is registered within the DEQ testing boundary. Not sure, click here. 

  2. Have a current registration renewal and must be renewed before the registration has been expired for over 365 days.

  3. Able to complete DEQ certification and DMV registration online only.

  4. Vehicle model year is 4 years or older​. 

  5. Vehicle must have an electronic VIN; typically, model years 2005 and newer. (Gasoline/flex fueled vehicles larger than 8,500 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight, and must be model years 2013 and newer. GVW can normally be found on the driver’s side door-jam labels.)

  6. Standard passenger plated vehicles only. (No: T-plate, B-Plate, Permanent Fleet, Tow/recovery)​
