The mission of the DEQ's Underground Storage Tanks Program is to protect Oregonian’s right to clean water and all other natural resources by preventing future petroleum UST releases.

The UST Program handles:

  • Issues related to tank registration and operating certificates
  • Installation, operation and removal of USTs, training of system operators
  • Financial liability protection for future leaks
  • Licensing of contractors working on USTs
  • Enforcement of state UST rules

For federal information pertaining to USTs, please refer to the Environmental Protection Agency's Underground Storage Tank page.

New rules webinar

In May, 2025, the Environmental Quality Commission voted to adopt updates to Oregon Administrative Rules Chapter 340, Division 160, the rules that govern the licensing and work of UST service providers and supervisors. These rules came into effect on July 1, 2025. On June 25, DEQ presented a webinar that covers the requirements in the updated rules. There are 3 videos covering this 2½ hour presentation and question and answer session.

Searchable facility summary information

Search by Facility ID#

You must enter the DEQ UST Facility ID#. You can look it up in the Facilities by Zip list, or, if you have an operating certificate number, it is the second number in the string. For example, in the operating certificate number 1-9748-2021-OPER, the facility ID# is 9748.
