Overview
In 2021, the legislature appropriated $240 million to support summer learning programs provided during the summer of 2021.
- $200 million of these funds was provided to school districts, public charter schools, and education service districts (ESDs) across the state for academic support for high school students, enrichment programs for K-8 students, and wrap around child care for K-5 students attending enrichment programs.
- The remaining $40 million was provided to community-based organizations across the state for enrichment programs serving students ages birth to 12th grade through grants administered by the Oregon Community Foundation.
These investments were a resounding success.
In response, the legislature appropriated an additional $150 million for summer learning programs in 2022.
- $100 million of these funds was provided to school districts, public charter schools, and ESDs across the state for academic support for high school students and enrichment programs for K-8 students.
- The remaining $50 million was provided to community-based organizations across the state for K-12 enrichment programs through grants administered by the
Oregon Association of Education Service Districts (OAESD).
At this time, funding has not been made available to continue these grants for the summer of 2023.
