Working to reduce Oregon's burden of tobacco-related diseases

Public health warning: Stop using vaping products

The Oregon Health Authority is urging Oregonians to stop using all vaping products until federal and state officials have determined the cause of serious lung injuries and deaths linked to the use of both cannabis and nicotine vaping products.

Tobacco Prevention and Education

The tobacco industry spends $137 million per year to reach every community in Oregon to promote and sell its products. Children and adults are bombarded with messages pushing them to smoke cigarettes or chew tobacco.

Oregon's Tobacco Prevention and Education Program funds local tobacco control programs to engage Oregonians in their homes, workplaces, schools, and other public places. These programs are found at county health departments, tribes, schools, and community-based organizations throughout Oregon. They counter tobacco marketing where it matters the most — in the places where people work, play, learn and live.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration Announcement to Ban Flavored E-cigarettes

In September 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a news release announcing that the agency plans to finalize a compliance policy that would clear the market of unauthorized flavored e-cigarette products.

The Oregon Health Authority released a statement in response to the FDA announcement to ban flavored e-cigarettes. Additionally, in 2018 and 2019, OHA submitted comments to the FDA urging the FDA to take action on flavored tobacco products, including e-cigarettes.
