Vaccines and Immunization

Vaccines are one of the biggest successes in public health. They help stop the spread of illness, keep people out of hospitals and save lives. Changes in national vaccine guidelines have caused confusion on who should get vaccines and when. In response, Oregon has joined the West Coast Health Alliance to ensure our public health advice is based on science and facts.

Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports vaccination recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The recommendations from these trusted organizations are reflected in Oregon's Model Immunization Protocols.

OHA stands by science and is committed to ensuring all people in Oregon have access to safe, effective vaccines.

Immunization is the safest and most effective public health tool for preventing disease and death

  • Vaccinating our families according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended immunization schedules not only protects our loved ones, but our entire community as well.
  • National Immunization Awareness Month is held every year in August.
