District Responsibilities
As of January 20, 2022, the State Board of Education adopted the amended rules for OAR 581-022-2500.
District-level TAG plans now need to be posted on the district's website, and available upon request by any school within the district.
Districts shall report their designated TAG coordinator's contact information to the Department annually (recommended deadline - November 1st of each year).
Districts shall post and update their designated TAG coordinator's contact information on the district website annually (recommended deadline - September 30th of each year).
Families and TAG identified students have the right to discuss the programs and services available to the student and provide input on the programs and services received.
Board policies are current (adopted 2022 or later).
TAG Plans
District TAG plans must be posted and easily accessible on the school district and/or Educational Service District website per OAR 581-022-2500. The documents should be located on a dedicated TAG or special education page that can be navigated to within one or two intuitive clicks. Being able to find the documents using a search function is not adequate. TAG plans must also use the ODE plan format document.
TAG Coordinators
Every year by November 1st, all districts must submit their current TAG Coordinator contact information to the Oregon Department of Education.
ODE uses the Continuous Improvement Plan Budget Narrative (CIP BN) to retrieve this information. We use Smartsheet to organize and communicate contact information out to the community. To update a district contact outside the CIP BN, please update your district’s contact information using the update form.
TAG Specialization Licensure
Pacific University’s Center for Gifted Education offers a 13-credit specialization program for teachers, counselors, paraprofessionals and parents who want to learn more about meeting the needs of gifted children.
The Talented and Gifted Specialization Program includes an introduction to gifted education, social and psychological foundations of gifted education, and classroom strategies, followed by a practicum in which participants apply their knowledge and skills. Each class is offered either 100 percent online or in a blended format, depending on demand. Blended courses meet for three half-day Saturday sessions each semester. The remainder of the coursework is conducted online to allow students more flexibility and convenience. Students may enter the program during any semester.
Board Policies
Please check your district’s board policies to ensure the most up-to-date adoption reflects the TAG OAR revisions that were adopted by the State Board of Education in 2022.
TAG Identification
Two slide decks were developed in 2023 to support districts with identification training requirements specific to OAR 581-022-2325. The slide decks are complete with speaker notes.
