The Student Investment Account is a non-competitive grant program which, when fully implemented, represents an investment of close to $500 million going directly to Oregon school districts and eligible charter schools. The purpose of the Student Investment Account is to meet students’ mental and behavioral health needs and increase academic achievement and reduce academic disparities for students of color; students with disabilities; emerging bilingual students; students navigating poverty, homelessness and foster care; and other student groups that have historically experienced academic disparities.
Designed with district leaders across Oregon’s 197 school districts in mind, ODE is providing this initial guidance and a toolkit to support the process by which students, staff, and families of particularly underserved or marginalized groups should be meaningfully and authentically engaged by districts to inform their needs assessment processes and their strategic planning efforts as required by the Student Success Act (House Bill 3427).
Please look through the toolkit and let us know how we did! We will review all feedback and comments received by September 13 and release final guidance on community engagement and an updated version of this toolkit in early October, 2019.
