Hospital Education Program (HEP)

The Hospital Education Program (HEP) funded by the Oregon Department of Education provides educational services to students receiving medical treatments in hospital settings. In 2023-24 there were 5 private hospitals and 2 state hospitals providing educational school programs across the state. The academic credits earned in these programs do transfer to other school districts and charter schools.

  • HB 3063 updated 343.261 with the following language:
    • (d) A student who is in a hospital educational program shall continue to remain enrolled in the school district in which the student had been a resident prior to being in the hospital educational program only for the purpose of maintaining access to classroom curricula and associated technology.
