The Rules Advisory Committee (RAC) was formed following the passage of the Student Success Act in 2019, and represents one of the many engagement avenues the Department uses when developing Oregon Administrative Rules. The RAC allows Department staff to regularly partner with a larger body of diverse perspectives for discussion and feedback during the rulemaking process. RAC membership is curated by the Department, and includes school leadership, licensed and classified school staff, student and parent voice, culturally specific and community based organizations, education service districts, tribal voices, and state education partners. The RAC does not make formal decisions nor formal recommendations.
Department staff are responsible for considering feedback from multiple sources when developing Oregon Administrative Rules, and the Department maintains regular opportunities for the public to provide feedback. More information on these public comment opportunities, including monthly public hearings and the Oregon State Board of Education, is available online.
