Willamette Basin: By Order and Rule

Protection for many uses

The rivers, streams and lakes in the Willamette Basin support native fish and other wildlife. Threatened native populations of Chinook salmon, steelhead trout and bull trout, rainbow and cutthroat trout, and other aquatic life are culturally and economically significant to the basin.

Total Maximum Daily Loads

Oregon has established Total Maximum Daily Loads, also called water pollution control plans, for the Willamette River and its tributaries. These TMDLs help to protect and restore water quality to support native fish populations, and other beneficial uses such as drinking water, fishing, and recreation.

TMDLs include Water Quality Management Plans that document the ways that landowners, agencies, and others can work to improve water quality. Visit our main Willamette Basin page for more information on the TMDL development and implementation process.
