Budget Reduction Planning Request
In October, all state agencies received a budget reduction planning request from the Legislative Fiscal Office (LFO). This was part of statewide planning in advance of the 2026 legislative session. It is not uncommon to receive this type of request. The final submissions were due to the LFO on November 3, 2025.
This was an exercise in planning, not implementation, and we do not yet know what the specific impacts to programs or staff could be. Although no reductions are being implemented right now, this request is important and will directly shape the options the Legislature considers.
We know this information may cause concerns. Please know that ODE is moving through this process with clarity, care, purpose and a focus on students.
The LFO requested that agencies submit reduction options amounting to a 5% reduction by fund type, presented in 2.5% increments.
