The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a Federal program that sets standards and provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to eligible children. Historically, summer meals served through the SFSP and the National School Lunch (NSLP) Program reach only about 16 percent of the 21 million children receiving free or reduced-price lunches during the school year. The SFSP plays an integral role in giving eligible children and teens access to meals when school is not in session.

USDA's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) administers SFSP through grants to States. In Oregon, the SFSP is administered by the Oregon Department of Education. Public and non-profit organizations that offer services year-round may be eligible to receive reimbursement for serving SFSP meals. SFSP reimbursement is based on the number of eligible meals served at approved sites. Sponsoring organizations operate a "non-profit food service" meaning that all reimbursement received for the SFSP must be used for the SFSP or other federal Child Nutrition Programs. Please review the information below to become a Summer Food Service Program sponsor.
