Stormwater runoff from land and impervious areas such as paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops during rainfall and snow events often contain pollutants that could adversely affect water quality. National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits are required for stormwater discharges to surface waters from municipalities if stormwater from rain or snow melt leaves a site through a "point source" and reaches surface waters either directly or through storm drainage. A point source is a natural or human-made conveyance of water through such things as pipes, culverts, ditches, catch basins, or any other type of channel.
1200-CN renewal 2026
DEQ proposes to renew the draft 1200-CN permit which regulates discharges from construction activities to surfaces waters of the state. Coverage under this permit is available only for eligible construction activities that will disturb between one (1) and five (5) acres of ground and are located within the MS4 boundaries of local jurisdictions that administer a DEQ-approved Qualified Local Program (QLP).
This permit renewal is a replacement of the previous 1200-CN construction stormwater general permit issued on Sept. 27, 2021.
DEQ will post the draft 1200-CN permit on this webpage for public review and comment in late October 2026. Please check back for more details on how to participate in the public review and comment process.
