Shepherds Flat Central is a wind energy facility with 116 turbines and a maximum generating capacity of 290 megawatts, located within a site boundary of approximately 11,769 acres.
Under Review/Operating. On August 26, 2019, the Department received an Amendment Determination Request and preliminary Request for Amendment 2. The proposed amendment would lower the minimum allowed blade tip clearance for two turbines from 25 meters to 21.5 meters. The proposed amendment would allow the certificate holder to modify turbine components and install longer turbine blades on the existing towers for the two turbines for demonstration purposes. The Department notes that the longer turbine blades would also increase the blade-tip height and rotor diameter for the two turbines within the parameters allowed by the site certificate. On September 5, 2019, the Department determined the proposed amendment justifies review under the “Type B” review process.
