Office of Indian Education (Federal) Student Artist Competition
The 2024 competition theme is "My Native Language." Art entries open to early childhood through grade 12. Writing and/or Video entries open to grades 4 through 12. Deadline has been extended to April 12, 2024.

OKHÍČHAŊYE (pronounced O-KHI-CHAN-YE) Scholarship
Akiptan Inc. is committed to supporting the next generation of Native agriculture stewards. Native American high school seniors pursuing a degree that will support the Native agriculture industry are encouraged to apply for 1 of 15 scholarships. Tribal or descendancy documentation must be provided. Must demonstrate a commitment to the Native agriculture community. Deadline to apply is April 30, 2024 4PM MST.

Tribal Stewards Inclusion Crews - Northwest Youth Corp
Offers a challenging education and job-training experience that helps youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds develop the skills they need to lead full and productive lives. Crews follow our Youth Camping program structure and combine education and job skill training with outdoor adventure for 16 to 18 year olds. Crew members work on conservation, reforestation, and recreation projects, while developing leadership skills and team building. Other affinity programs also available.

Portland Student Development Opportunities - Boeing Company and International Association of Machinists (IAM)
Machine Tech Prep - Over the course of three summer sessions, you will learn foundational manufacturing skills such as using drills, mills and lathes to turn raw materials into finished parts. This program is designed for current high schools students at least 16 years old by start of program. Applications due by April 19th, 2024. If invited to participate, housing, food, and transportation are NOT included.

Indigenous-Forward Summer Camps

14th Annual THRIVE Youth Conference June 24-25, 2024 FREE
Build protective factors through creative self-expression using traditional learning strategies. Connect with mentors and other Native youth ages 13-19. Learn about healthy behaviors and develop healthy coping mechanisms. Embrace their cultural pride and enhance resiliency. Sponsored NW Portland Area Indian Health Board. Registration is free.

Native Youth Wellness Warrior Camp June 24-27, 2024 Registration fee $399
The camp is intended to provide healing opportunities and skill development through ceremony, workshops, activities, movement, traditional games, crafts and more! Youth participants will be given tools to live a life of balance and become a good relative. Camp will be hosted by Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde at their Uyxat Powwow Grounds. Available to youths ages 12-18.

Tryon Forest Adventures Weekly sessions from June 17 - August 15 $375-425 per session
Friends of Tryon Creek is a community-supported nonprofit connecting youth ages 6-14 to nature. We create inclusive space for families to make memories and friendship forged in the forest. Session topics include Animals, Trees, Navigation, and Water and will repeat. Members pay $375, non-members pay $425.

Konaway Nika Tillicum July 6-13, 2024 Costs covered by SOU
An overnight camp for motivated Native American students completing grades 7-12. Students spend time with tribal elders and leaders during classes, activities, and outdoor presentations. Staying in the dorms of Southern Oregon University, students will experience dining and life on a University campus. Check-in Saturday, enjoy weekend activities, classes Monday-Friday with special presentations, after-class cultural events, and attendance to an Oregon Shakespeare play. Deadline to apply is May 31, 2024!

CYBERPDX for Native & Indigenous Students July 29 - August 2, 2024 FREE
CyberPDX is a no-cost 5-day residential summer STEAM camp at Portland State University designed to introduce Native American and Indigenous high school students to cybersecurity skills, principles, policies, and careers through an interactive STEAM curriculum and career exposure. No prior experience is necessary, begninners are welcome! All food, lodging, and instructional costs are covered by generous donors including lead supporter Spirit Mountain Community Fund.

Oregon Library Association: All Together Now!

Preconference session includes Indigenous Books and Curriculum Resources to Support Students & Educators (K-8 & Beyond).

Join your colleagues for four days of workshops, presentations, and networking. Some elements of the conference will be available virtually and there will be some virtual-only sessions for those who can’t make it.

The conference theme is All Together Now. We are looking to celebrate all the ways that libraries collaborate through partnerships, resource and information sharing, how libraries are welcoming spaces, and more!
