The Arts

OverviewFour children hold up painted signs spelling the word 'creative'

Arts programs have the potential to center joy, creativity, and resilience in our schools, provide meaningful and relevant learning opportunities for our students, and prepare all students for healthy and successful future endeavors thgrough well-rounded learning. Through standards-aligned arts learning opportunities, students gain access to essential skills and knowledge needed to communicate effectively, develop their creativity, and make meaningful change in our complex world.

Oregon adopted new Arts standards in September 2015. Based on the National Core Arts Standards, they contain standards for five discrete disciplines, a glossary for each discipline and supporting materials for the standards.

The State Board Adopted Oregon Arts standards provide a guide to what students should be able to know and do in arts courses at specified grade levels.

Announcement: New Arts Access Toolkit from the Oregon Department of Education

The Well-Rounded Access Program (WRAP) at the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is excited to announce the upcoming release of new resources to support arts programs across the state. The Arts Access Toolkit is part of an initiative to increase access for Oregon students to arts and STEM/STEAM learning opportunities. The toolkit is organized into a digital collection, highlighting both agency developed and external resources to assist schools and districts in offering and sustaining high quality, standards-aligned arts programs.

ODE is inviting administrators, educators, teaching artists, arts organizations, and all school staff, families, and community members interested in arts education to join us this June to learn more about the Arts Access Toolkit. Click on the links below to register for the webinar day and time that works best for you:

If you are unable to join us at either of these times, the webinars will also be recorded. You can find recordings of previous sessions on the Arts Access Toolkit site.
