Public and Private schools, Residential Child Care Institutions and other agencies of the National School Lunch Program, Summer Food Service Program, and Child and Adult Care Food Program are eligible to receive USDA Foods. USDA allocates funds (entitlement) to ODE which is then allocated to each Agency based on their total lunches served in the previous school year.

Agencies can use their USDA Foods entitlement to spend on USDA Foods through one or any combinations of the available options: Direct Delivery products, Processing/Diversion, DoD Fresh Fruit and Vegetable and the Unprocessed Fruit and Vegetable Pilot.

USDA Foods are catered towards agency menu needs, often a greater value than the agency could procure on their own.

SY2022-23 USDA Foods entitlement rates:

  • NSLP $0.43 per lunch
  • CACFP $0.30 per meal (or cash in lieu of USDA Foods)
  • SFSP $0.015 per meal
