The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) conducts an annual Special Education Parent Survey to gather vital feedback on the experiences, needs, and satisfaction of families of children receiving special education. The primary goal is to measure how effectively districts and programs facilitate family involvement. Survey information helps identify areas of strength and areas that need improvement.
Survey Promotion
ODE partners with school districts and early intervention and early childhood special education (EI/ECSE) programs to raise awareness and promote the survey. Programs can use the following flyers, sample letters, and social media graphics to support outreach efforts.
Survey Distribution
Survey distribution takes place in April and May. In April, parents in participating districts and programs receive a text message with a secure survey link. Families who do not respond to the text message are mailed a letter and a copy of the survey in May.
Examples of the text messages are below. Programs are encouraged to raise awareness of when families will receive the text message and its content, to ensure families feel comfortable clicking the secure survey link.
