Resources for Families and Communities Experiencing Discrimination

Oregon prohibits discrimination based on age, citizenship status, color, disability, gender identity, immigration status, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation in all state-funded education programs. This means that Oregon K-12 public school districts and public charter schools cannot discriminate against students, employees, or third parties (like parents) based on their protected class identities.



Civil Rights Support Program Virtual Office Hours

Who: Members of the school community with questions/needs concerning discrimination in a public school setting.
What: Access to Civil Rights Support Specialists in an informal, virtual, public setting to receive guidance and education on civil rights laws and discrimination complaint procedures.*
When: Every third Friday of the month, from 12-1 PM.
Where: Zoom Link
How: Drop-in, as needed. No appointment is required. Zoom Waiting room activated.

As of July 1, 2026, immigration status and citizenship status were added as protected classes under Oregon law (SB 1538; ORS 659.850). Documents including references to Oregon's protected classes should now include age, citizenship status, color, disability, gender identity, immigration status, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, and sexual orientation.
