Student Educational Equity Development Survey (SEED)

Overview

The Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey is offered annually to students in grades 3-11 across Oregon.  An alternate version (Alt-SEED) is available for students who participate in alternate assessments. These surveys are designed to gather information about the educational experiences of students. This information helps to provide a holistic picture of public education systems in Oregon. ODE uses the results of the SEED Survey to inform resource development for school districts. The SEED Survey also helps ODE better interpret information we are already gathering through statewide testing. Districts are required to make the SEED Survey available to students as described in ORS 329.078 and OAR 581.022.2100.

The survey is available in multiple languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Arabic. The same accessibility supports are available for the SEED Survey as on statewide summative assessments. Domains covered on the survey include Access to Learning Resources, Sense of Belonging, Opportunity to Learn, Self-Efficacy, Career Connected Learning, Post-Graduation Planning, Well-Rounded Education, and Extracurricular Engagement.
Feedback and comments for the SEED Survey may be submitted to ODE through this Google form.

Please email ODE.SEEDSurveys@ode.oregon.gov with any questions you have regarding the SEED and/or Alt-SEED Surveys.

SEED Survey Development and Items

The SEED Survey measures eight domains: Access to Learning Resources, Sense of Belonging, Opportunity to Learn, Self-Efficacy, Career Connected Learning, Post-Graduation Planning, Well-Rounded Education, and Extracurricular Engagement. The first four are covered in some capacity across every grade (i.e., grades 3-11) and the last four are only covered in specific grades. The Alt-SEED measures four domains: Access to Learning Resources, Sense of Belonging, Opportunity to Learn, and Independence. The following section provides information about how the survey was developed and the survey items for each grade.
